Palette knife lesson -struggled

Tonight I worked on a palette knife tutorial by Angela Anderson. She and her husband are such a delight to listen to and watch on YouTube. My skill level needs so much work but it was fun all the same,  a pleasant evening. If you see a well-done palette knife painting know that that person has practiced and worked very hard to achieve their painting skills.  8x10 acrylic palette knife on mixed media paper.

Change of plans

Sometimes a friend will ask for a favor and in granting it, you have to change your own plans.   That happened to me today.  It was disappointing to miss the activities I had anticipated but made the best of the day by painting.

Glen Echo

When I was a little girl my folks would take us to a small amusement park called Glen Echo. At the time it had ( to me) the scariest spook house, a wonderful carousel, refreshing pool, bumper cars, a roller coaster and more. I remember having the best times there. It closed during the late ‘60s. Later, when my child was growing up they had puppet shows . Now the venue has become more sophisticated and has events and dancing.  The Glen Echo Park Art and Culture Partnership was established in 2002.  They  are holding a Holiday Art show and sale.  Nov. 24 , 2017 - January 7th 2018

Learning to use a palette knife

The other night I attempted this angel tutorial from Angela Anderson using a palette knife. They are both on 6x8 mixed media paper using heavy body acrylics. It felt very awkward using the palette knife instead of a brush yet freeing at the same time. I will be trying this on a canvas panel soon with a different background color. Angels have long been a favorite theme of mine. Several angels decorate my house through stain glass, wood carvings, garden statues and jewelry.

Catching Up

Two weeks ago I visited an evening art and music event in Leesburg, VA.  It was held at The Leesburg Junction on a Friday night. I met some very interesting artists and learned Loudoun County has an Art trail.  (sounds like a field trip) The evening was sponsored by Friends of Leesburg Public Arts.

Visit to Occaquan

In September, I started driving down to Florida to visit my mom. On the way, I stopped at the town of Occaquan to mail a package.   This charming town, along the Occaquan river, was filled with little boutique shops, galleries and cafes. I popped into a cute Artist cooperative and it was filled with many wonderful paintings, crafts, glass work and giftable items.  Art a la Carte   310 Mill St.
The lady at the cashier was actually one of the Artists. She said there were about 20+ artists who all took turns running the gallery.
I will definitely be returning to Occaquan to explore more of the art galleries and shops.
